RCS MS Library
Digital Photography Club

The RCS MS Digital Photography Club gives students the opportunity to gain experience in the world of photography. The club will be exploring different aspects of of taking pictures. We will cover topics like lighting, depth of field, and the rule of thirds as a few examples.

Every few weeks the students will be given an assignment to complete either at school or at home. The results of these assignments will be posted below.

The club meets every Monday 10th period in the Middle School Library. Please see Mrs. Buckley for more information.

Composition
The next topic we covered was "composition," the students were asked to think about the shots they were taking and use their photography to create a feeling associated with the shot. The shot also need to be 'clean' and uncluttered so the viewer didn't get confused in the photo. The picture needed to have one central idea.

Rule of Thirds
Our first topic is the "rule of thirds." The "rule of thirds" helps the photographer put the subject in the picture. The picture can be divided into thirds, using imaginary lines, both horizontally and vertically creating 9 boxes. Placing a subject at the intersection of these lines creates a better image. Studies show that a person's eye will go to one of these intersections automatically, instead of going to the center of the photo.  We discussed the rule, looked at some examples and went out to take some images.
