In order to install consistency in the mathematics department we have agreed upon a grading procedure for all grades 5 – 8.  If you have any questions feel free to contact your student’s teacher for clarification.

Text Box: Grades will be calculated based on Test and Quiz Scores
Tests:  Count twice as much as quizzes (200 points)
Quizzes:  Count once in the overall average (100 points)

Projects:  Depending on the size of a project it may be scored as a test grade or a quiz grade.  Teachers will make a judgment of this as needed for their classes.

Homework:  Homework will be checked (√ ).  In grades 5 – 8 there will be two homework grades per marking period.  Each homework grade will be calculated halfway through the marking period.  Each homework grade will be counted as a quiz grade.

Grades 6 – 8:  Students with incomplete assignments within a unit can make up an assignment, on their own or 10th period, for ½ credit.  After the unit test all incomplete assignments for that unit will count as a zero.

Examples of giving a homework average:

1)   If there are 10 homework assignments checked midway into the marking period and a student misses 2, they will receive an 80% for that homework grade.

8 out of 10 assignments turned in completely done = 80%

2)   If the two missing assignments are turned in for that group of 10 assignments, then their homework average would be 90%.

8 assignments plus two late assignments turned in complete at ½ credit each

= 9 out of 10 or 90%

Grade 5:  For grade 5 in AWB and PBC, the teachers will develop their policy for homework for the first half of the year.  It has been agreed upon that a late assignment completed in AWB and PBC will be given 75% credit.  The intent is to promote responsibility with the student.  For the second half of the school year, a late assignment will be given ½ credit.  AWB and PBC have agreed on this.  This was decided upon to develop a smooth transition into the 6th grade.

Examples of giving a homework average:

1)   If there are 10 homework assignments checked midway into the marking period and a student misses 2, they will receive an 80% for that homework grade.

8 out of 10 assignments turned in completely done = 80%

2)   If the two missing assignments are turned in late in that group of 10, then their homework average would be 95%.

8 assignments plus two late assignments at ¾ credit each turned in done

= 9.5 out of 10 or 95%
