Activities for around the Home
In the Kitchen:
Magnetic letters on the fridge to practice sight words and word families
Sticky notes around the house: label objects or write sight words
Play “I Spy a Letter” by finding objects that start with the letter of the week.
Cooked, cooled spaghetti noodles are a fun way for children to form letters and shapes.
In the Bathroom:
Put a layer of shaving cream on your bathtub wall to allow your child to practice writing letters or words. Cleans off easily with water and a sponge.
In the car:
Look at license plates, and say the letters and numbers.
Keep an Etch-a-Sketch or clip board with paper and crayons in the car.
Outside:
When Shopping:
Seek your child's help to write the grocery-shopping list.
While driving to the supermarket, get the kids' help to look up items in the supermarket. Do some simple math activities by counting items and reading prices when you checked out.
On your way home while stopping by the cafe to have a snack, read the menu to your child and let her make her choice of order
