      Test coming soon to a classroom near you!

Remember the rules:

Singular = meaning one

Plural = meaning many

Most singular nouns just get an s to make them plural. Example: dog + s = dogs

If a noun ends in ch, sh, x, z, or s add es.  Example:  church + es = churches

If a noun ends in y and has a vowel before it, then just add an s.  Example: valley + s = valleys

If a noun ends in y and has a consonant before it, then drop the y and add ies.  Example: library + ies = libraries

If a noun ends in f then drop the f and add ves.  Example wolf + ves + wolves

If a noun ends in o and has a vowel before it, add an s.  Example radio + s = radios

If a noun ends in o and has a consonant it, before it add an es.  Example potato + es = potatoes

THERE ARE SOME NOUNS that just don’t behave no matter what.  These are irregular nouns like

mouse = mice

tooth = teeth

child = children

people = people

ox = oxen

fish = fish  and so on and so on.  You just have to memorize these.
